FAQ's

Does OHIP cover massage therapy?
No, only through extended health care benefits or auto insurance companies. Check your policy or provider for coverage details. Direct billing to Green Shield and WSIB is available.

Do I need a referral or prescription for Massage Therapy?
As massage therapists we do not require a referral but your insurance company may request a note for reimbursement.

Payment methods?
We direct bill for Green Shield and WSIB only. For all other treatments, you are required to pay at the time of your service by MasterCard, Visa, Interac, Cash or Cheque.

What do I wear?
Skin on skin contact is the most beneficial to work on body tissues. You are covered with a sheet at all times and only the area being treated is uncovered. However if you wish to leave your clothing on, the therapist can modify your treatment accordingly. Your comfort is most important.

How do I decide how much time I need?
The time needed depends on what part of your body requires treatment. If you would like an area or two ie: back and neck, 30 minutes is sufficient. If you would like a full body treatment, then a minimum of 60 minutes is needed.

What is included in a full body massage?
Low to upper back, back of legs from the hips to the feet; front of the legs, arms, head, neck and shoulders. Face, scalp and abdomen may be included as well.

Will I hurt the next day?
Some clients indicate minimal tenderness the next day. This may be similar to the feeling after a physical workout. Your homecare recommendations from your therapist should decrease the amount of tenderness. If you experience extreme pain after a treatment you need to contact your therapist for further instructions.

Health Tips

Dehydration
Dehydration is a subtle problem that shows up as diminished efficiency, fuzzy headedness, muscle cramping and hunger pains. Be sure to drink at least 8-10 Glasses of Water a Day to clean out toxins and help the body function much better. Don't wait till your thirsty to do so...by then it's already too late!

Low Back Spasms
Ice 10 minutes on and 20 minutes off. Repeat several times through day. DO NOT ADD DIRECT HEAT! In the first 48 hrs. keep moving, no longer than 15 minutes in any position. Try to rotate from sitting to standing to lying down. Rest lying down on the floor with your hips and knees flexed to 90 degrees, resting lower legs on a chair. This takes the pressure off of the lower back.

Neck Spasms
In the first 48 hrs. ice only. Do not apply heat to the area. Keep neck covered if outdoors and be cautious of sleeping under fans, open windows or near A/C vent.

Epsom Salt Bath
For treatment of sprains, bruises, or after any activities or workouts, add 3 - 4 cups of Epsom salts to a warm bath and soak. Be sure to drink plenty of water after your bath.
